EY international audit firm has published the results of its study “Strategic Prospects of the Labor Market of Ukraine – 2017”. The main conclusion of the study - showdown for talents will become more acute in the next three years.
Here are some more results of the study. Compared to the last year, the main criteria for choices of an employer and their priority have not changed - candidates often pay attention to the size of wages and the image of the company in the market. Possibilities of personal and professional growth are mentioned less frequently by respondents (by 6% compared to 2016), but they remain important for more than 60% of the candidates. Other important factors include career perspectives and international experience.
Continuing the trend of the past three years, experienced candidates often called IT companies and FMCG industries (production and sales of consumer goods). Employers of professional services were often mentioned. In general, more than half of all respondents’ independent mentioning fall into these three sectors (25%, 16% and 11% respectively).
Professional candidates often receive information about employers from Internet sources. In particular, the Internet media was the most popular channel among all offered, as indicated by 79% of respondents. Other key online resources include social networks that have become even more popular among experienced candidates and corporate websites of companies. At the same time, more than half of the survey participants (52%) receive information about employers from friends and relatives - respondents mentioned this source more often than job portals. In addition, experienced candidates actively attend events with the participation of experts from other companies and rely on their own experience of cooperation (about 50% of references). The least popular sources of information about employers are traditional media - television, newspapers and radio.
Respondents called the negative atmosphere in the team (67% of references) among the reasons that encourage contemporary candidates to actively search for a new place of work. This fact once again confirms the importance of corporate culture for professionals. Similarly, the lack of opportunities for development and career development can also lead to outflow of personnel, as these factors are among the five key criteria for selecting employers among experienced candidates. Another major reason is dissatisfaction with the direct leader (45% of references).
The main difficulties faced by candidates remain unchanged: the lack of communication with the employer (39% of references), the limited number of vacancies in the specialty (35% of references) and the incorrectness of information contained in the vacancy description (34% of references).
As in the past year, more than half of the interviewed candidates are ready to move for employment (53% - within Ukraine, 83% - abroad). At the same time, the share of those who want to move within the country continues to decline from year to year (a trend has been observed over the past five years). Lviv, Odessa, Kiev, Dnipro and Kharkiv are the most popular cities for moving within Ukraine. The leaders are Western countries among the desirable destinations for moving abroad, among which the USA, Germany, Poland and Canada are the most popular.
