The EY International Audit Firm and publication “Technology review of Massachusetts Institute of Technology” at the EmTech Digital Technology Conference held in San Francisco (USA) conducted a survey of business executives to find out the current trends in the use of artificial intelligence.
122 company executives participated in the survey. More than half of respondents (52%) are convinced that artificial intelligence will have a positive effect on job creation. About a third of respondents (32%) believe that the introduction of artificial intelligence will create more jobs than lost ones. Another 20% predict that artificial intelligence will contribute to a significant increase in the number of new jobs and economic development.
According to the results of the survey, the plans of organizations implementing artificial intelligence technologies are increasingly hampered by a shortage of staff with specialized knowledge and skills. The lack of specialists in the field of artificial intelligence implementation is a major problem for 80% of respondents. Among other key issues, respondents highlighted the lack of application of artificial intelligence technologies for current business processes (53%), insufficient understanding of artificial intelligence capabilities and lack of leadership support (48%), as well as poor reliability and quality of data used for artificial intelligence (48%).
As for the expectations, executives would like to improve and develop new products and services with the help of artificial intelligence. 50% seek to optimize costs and business processes, and 49% would like to accelerate the decision-making process.
Chris Mazzei, EY Global Director of Innovation Technology and Data Analysis, said: “Companies are increasingly using artificial intelligence to improve their operating models. As a result, management receives more detailed reports on the successful commercial application of technology and the impact of artificial intelligence on value creation. Although artificial intelligence technologies are still in the early stages of implementation, companies need to make a strategy for developing these technologies with the support of senior management and the availability of a professional team to implement and evaluate the effectiveness of its implementation”.
